Peake’s tenement in Marden, by Thomas Walter, John Burbridge, John
Gilbert and others. Signed by 6 parties ( 3 with their mark ) with wax seals on 6 tags. Signatures of the witnesses are on the reverse side of the document. Good
condition with some light browning, to be expected on a document of some

18th september 1689 reign of william & mary rare and large, 3 page heavy vellum tripartite indenture between sir charles sedley of southfleet in the county of kent, baronet, and henry webb, executor of elizabeth webb deceased, of chelsea in the parish of kensington within the county of middlesex, gentleman, and charles duncombe of teddington in the county of middlesex, esquire. relates to “great oakley ffarme and all houses outhouses barns stables edifices buildings yards backesydes hartelayes gardens orchards and orchard ground…. signed by sir charles sedley and henry webb. two pendant wax seals attached, joining the three sheets together. large calligraphic initial letter “T” (4” x 5.75” approx ) with elaborate scroll work along the word “this indenture” with further elaborate scroll work to the letter “H” and “I” sizes page 1 25.75” x 27.5” page 2 22” x 27.5” page 3 12.75” x 27.5”
historical information sir charles sedley was born in aylesford, kent in 1639, the son of sir john sedley. He was an english restoration poet and dramatist, of some repute. a young rake, and prominent member of king charles ii’s inner circle, he often delighted the king with his witty conversation. Sir charles became notorious following an “indecent frolic” in bow street, London, for which he was heavily fined. He was a member of parliament for new Romney in kent. His only child, Catherine was seduced by king james ii, who created her the countess of Dorchester in 1656. she had a daughter by him, who was also named Catherine. Sir charles sedley died in hampstead London, in 1701. please quote ref 014 |
